CARL BLANCHAER
Principal (Retired) WZMH Architects
Carl played a pivotal role in city-building, both as Principal at WZMH Architects (a role from which he is now retired after 37 years) and as a member of Toronto's Design Review Panel, which helps shape the municipal government's response to high-stakes development proposals. Previously, Carl also served on the University of Toronto's Design Review Committee, where he volunteered his expert judgment on countless campus design projects, including the St. George Campus Secondary Plan. As a Principal at WZMH, Carl was involved in many of the firm’s largest and most complex projects throughout Canada and the Middle East & North Africa.
YULIAN CHAPLINSKY
Architect and Urbanist, CEO of the Architectural Company AVR DEVELOPMENT
Yulian Chaplinsky is an architect, urbanist, and public figure who graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University with a degree in Architecture of Buildings and Structures. From 2011 to 2015, he ran his own firm, CHAPLINSKYY & Associates, and later partnered with Stefan Benish on the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Center project, which was nominated for the prestigious Mies van der Rohe European Union Architecture Prize in 2019. In 2015, Yulian became the chief architect of Lviv, where he led notable projects such as the villa on Yefrymova Street and the SoftServe office. He also organized architectural competitions aimed at improving the city and the region. In 2019, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development for European Integration. Today, he hosts a YouTube blog discussing urban planning, architecture, and the challenges facing Ukrainian cities.
MOHAMMED AL-ATHERI
Principal WZMH Architects
As a Design Principal, Mohammed has worked on significant commercial, hospitality and institutional projects in Canada and abroad. These include Toronto’s 880 Bay Street office tower, York Region’s Administrative Centre Annex in Newmarket, Ontario; and Nation Towers, a mixed use development in Abu Dhabi, ranked as one of the tallest 20 buildings in 2012. Mohammed strives to improve the human experience in aesthetically pleasing environments designed with sensitivity to user comfort, sustainability and economy of construction. Mohammed’s creativity, attention to detail and functional problem solving skills have made a significant contribution to the many projects with which he has been involved. Mohammed joined WZMH Architects in 2005. He holds a Master of Architecture (2012) and a Bachelor of Architectural Science (2004) from Ryerson University, Toronto. He won several awards and recognitions such as the OAA Guild Medal in 2012, RAIC Honour Roll in 2012 and the OAA Award for the Highest Academic Achievement in the Master of Architecture Program in 2011. Mohammed was appointed to the position of Principal in 2019.
CEES DONKERS
Urban Designer City of Eindhoven
and Research Consultant
Cees Donkers is a Dutch urban designer and architect known for his significant contributions to urban renewal projects in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He worked for the city of eindhoven for over three decades, focusing on urban design, architecture, and planning. Donkers is particularly recognized for his emphasis on participatory urban development, where the community plays a key role in shaping the cityscape. He has been an advocate for integrating art, culture, and design into city planning to create vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments. He is also noted for his involvement in projects like "Strijp-S," the transformation of a former industrial complex into a creative hub in Eindhoven, and his work with Eindhoven's "Brainport" initiative, which aims to position the city as a center of innovation and creativity. His approach to urban development often combines social responsibility with aesthetic considerations, promoting cities that are not only functional but also culturally rich and people-centered. Donkers has shared his insights in various international forums, contributing to the global conversation about the future of urban spaces.
DARIA OZHYHANOVA
Architect, BA Program Director,
Studio Lecturer
Daria Ozhyhanova is an architect and educator with a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Kharkiv National University of Construction and Architecture. She co-founded the NOEMA studio, where she focuses on residential, public sector projects, and architectural competitions. Daria coordinated projects like Modernism Women, which highlighted the contributions of women to science, culture, and art, and she curated educational programs for children, promoting youth involvement in urban planning. She has participated in several architectural workshops, such as the Idea of a City. Reality Check summer school, and contributed to revitalization concepts like that of the Polyaron plant. Since 2022, she has been the BA Programme Director at Kharkiv School of Architecture, where she designs curricula, leads the 1st Year Studio, and collaborates with various tutors and guest lecturers. Additionally, she has taught at DASH children's architectural school and worked on projects involving the reconstruction of historic buildings.
YURIJ MICHAEL PELECH

With 35+ years of experience, Yurij is recognized as an industry leader. He is known for his professionalism, pragmatism and skill in addressing and resolving development issues with forward-thinking and value-generating implementation strategies, as well as his meticulous attention to detail, dedicated pursuit of approvals and professional courteous manner with clients, municipal and approval authority staff, and project team members. Yurij specializes primarily in stakeholder representation, the preparation of planning and development feasibility studies, processing formal development applications, managing and expediting the regulatory review approvals process, conducting negotiations with public approval authorities and the direction of multi-disciplinary project consulting teams. Operating at the cross-roads of planning and urban design, his work in the private sector has focused on land use planning and project management in a range and varied portfolio of projects including residential, mixed-use, retail commercial, institutional, industrial, employment, recreational resort, seniors’ lifestyle retirement, and master-planned community development projects. This work has focused on identifying development opportunities for land-based assets, developing strategies to achieve corporate objectives through proper management of land assets, and examining market conditions, the regulatory framework and site characteristics to outline development options that best support client interests and objectives, and following through with recommended implementation strategies to secure requisite development planning approvals. While his portfolio of projects stretches province-wide, his focus remains within the fast-growing GTHA. His clients have come to rely on his expert knowledge to help facilitate development approvals. When not practicing in the field of city-building, Yurij volunteers as a mentor with several youth basketball programs.
OLGA TEREFEYEVA
Educator, Co-founder of Archproduction
Olga Terefeyeva is an educator in the fields of the European Design School and PRO PM, as well as a co-founder of Archproduction. She is an active speaker and organizer for several industry events, including Interior Build, ProMaison, and Interior Mebel, where she shares her expertise and insights into modern design. Olga serves as a jury member for prestigious competitions such as Industart and Magnolia Nuova, showcasing her commitment to promoting excellence in design and architecture. As an activist, she is involved with Save Kyiv Modernism, advocating for the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage. Additionally, she co-founded Design4Ukraine, a platform dedicated to supporting Ukrainian designers and initiatives. Currently, Olga is researching urban issues in Ukraine, participating in thematic panel discussions, and coordinating the work of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine in this regard. In her role as a brand ambassador for Devo Home, she promotes innovative home design solutions, and she is also a creative partner at A83, contributing to various design projects.
NICOLA CASCIATO
Principal WZMH Architects
Since joining the firm in 2005, Nicola has brought a high level of energy and creativity to the design of a number of major projects, including the Durham Consolidated Courthouse, Bay-Adelaide Centre and the Caesar’s Casino in Windsor, Ontario. He joined WZMH as a Senior Designer with experience in institutional, multi-unit residential and recreational buildings. Nicola’s strengths lie within the realm of design with a deeply rooted connection to the architecture of humanism while maintaining a full understanding of the production of contract documents and contract administration. His skills were acquired through six years as an associate at Montgomery Sisam Architects, a distinguished Toronto practice, and four years of formative training at Perkins and Will, an internationally renowned Chicago practice. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the firm, Nicola was appointed a Principal of WZMH in 2010. Nicola has a Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois, a Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science from Ryerson University, and is a member of the Ontario Building Envelope Council.
OLEKSANDR CHYZHEVSKYI
Architect, President of the National Union
of Architects of Ukraine (NUAU)
Oleksandr Chyzhevskyi is an architect, public figure, and President of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine (NUAU). He graduated with honors from the Kyiv State Art Institute in 1979, specializing in architecture. Chyzhevskyi began his professional career at the State Enterprise "UkrNDPI Civil Engineering" in Kyiv, where he worked until 2018. Currently, he serves as the director of "UkrNPI Civil Engineering" in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, Kyiv Oblast. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded the title of Honored Architect of Ukraine in 1995 and received the State Prize of Ukraine in Architecture in 2006. Chyzhevskyi is also a candidate of architecture, having achieved this academic designation in 1989. As President of the NUAU since 2020, he actively engages in promoting architectural standards and supports the professional community in Ukraine. He is a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture and participates in various architectural associations and initiatives aimed at advancing the profession.
SUPREET BARHAY
Principal WZMH Architects
In her role as Principal, Supreet leads the Retail Team and is currently involved in various retail, retail banking, residential and intensification mixed-use projects. In her role as a Project Architect and Project Manager, Supreet has been involved with various projects that range in size and type from new Shopping Centres to major renovation of existing Shopping Centres as well as new residential buildings. She has actively been involved in all phases for each project which range from predesign, design, site plan approvals, construction documents to contract administration and project close-out - this enables her to manage client commitments and expectations consistently. As a Team leader, she prepares work plans and project schedules at the start of each project and tracks them for efficient delivery. She is instrumental in engaging with Authorities having Jurisdiction for project approvals and leading multi-disciplinary teams in coordinated and timely submissions. Her valued experience on various projects has made her cognizant of various client relations and set-ups. Her experience on site has enhanced her problem-solving abilities and management of consistent information flow. Supreet is a LEED® Accredited Professional (BD+C) and brings her sensitivity in green and sustainable design to every project whether or not it advances as a LEED-designated development. Supreet worked at Pellow + Associates for nine years prior to the firm’s merger in 2015 and was appointed to the position of Principal in 2019. Supreet holds Bachelor of Architecture from Bangalore University and a Master of Building Engineering and Management from New Delhi School of Planning and Architecture in India. She is a registered Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects and became a LEED Accredited Professional in 2007.
